Moken Community Project

Moken: Identity & Perspective

For the Moken on Koh Phayam, a strong sense of community is a part of everyday life. In their traditionally spoken language, there are no words for worry, greed, or selfishness. For several years, we have been working closely with our reliable partner Fiona from 'All for Villages' to sustainably strengthen the self-determination of these sea nomads. A continuous overall project has grown out of this foundation of trust. By expanding the sports ground and building hygienic sanitation facilities, we created the first central meeting places for the village community. The community boat 'Moken Kabang' complements this as an economic engine: during the peak season, it generates fair income through eco-tourism, whilst in the low season, it secures food through traditional fishing. The young Moken Wut, Oden, and Tiny manage the boat independently. Based on this strong partnership and deep trust, we want to continue standing by the Moken on Koh Phayam in the future. Together with the community and our local partner, we will continuously develop what has been achieved and focus on where support is needed most.

Act now

Small act, big impact

This work thrives on the support of dedicated people. Small steps can lead to big changes and every contribution helps immensely. The extent of this support is entirely up to each individual. After all, great things can only be achieved when many hands pitch in.
