Man Khong Project

A New Foundation for Thien Khien

Education is the future, yet many schools in rural Laos are deteriorating due to a lack of state funding. This is also the reality in Thien Khien: The classroom for the 70 school children was built 20 years ago using simple materials like bamboo and wooden slats. Today, rain lashes through the walls, and dust fills the room – making healthy learning impossible. Following the successful 'Sodsai' project, we are now building upon that momentum. The renovation stands under the sign of the Laotian term 'Man Khong' (ໝັ້ນຄົງ) – 'stable, firm, and secure.' We are replacing rotting walls with robust concrete and weatherproofing the building. In this context, 'Man Khong' symbolically represents an unshakeable foundation for education. Solid walls create a protected learning environment, attract more children, and motivate the government to send additional teaching staff. This project is built on trust: We rely on our long-standing partnership with the experienced local construction manager, Somlath Vongsipheuth. His team is executing the construction, actively supported by volunteer labor from the village community. Upon completion, the community will take over the maintenance, and the school authority will handle the administration. In this way, we are creating a safe place where the future can grow on stable ground.
