For the Moken people on Koh Phayam, community spirit is a way of life. In their language, which is passed down purely through oral tradition, there are no words for worry, greed, or selfishness. For several years, we have been working closely with our trusted partner, Fiona from All for Villages, to empower these sea nomads to build a sustainable, self-determined future. From this foundation of trust, a long-term initiative has taken root. By upgrading the sports pitch and installing proper sanitation facilities, we helped build the village’s first community hubs. The shared boat, 'Moken Kabang', builds on this progress as an economic driver: during peak season, it generates fair incomes through eco-tourism, while in the low season, it ensures food security through traditional fishing. Young Moken locals—Wut, Oden, and Tiny—manage the boat independently. Thanks to this strong partnership and mutual trust, we remain fully committed to supporting the Moken on Koh Phayam for the long haul. Together with the local community and our partner on the ground, we will continue to build on what we’ve achieved and step in wherever support is needed most.
This work thrives on the support of dedicated people. Small steps can lead to big changes and every contribution helps immensely. The extent of this support is entirely up to each individual. After all, great things can only be achieved when many hands pitch in.
