The Thai word 'Chumchon' means 'community'—for the Moken on Koh Phayam, this is part of everyday life. Their non-written culture is passed down purely through oral tradition; in their language, words for worry, greed, or selfishness do not even exist. To support these traditional sea nomads, our partner 'All for Villages' works closely with them. Built on trust with Fiona, our local partner, this cooperation has already made sanitary facilities and a recycling center possible. At the heart of the initiative is now the longtail boat 'Moken Kabang,' acting as a driver for a self-determined future. From December to April, it generates a socially just income for the families through authentic tourism. It also promotes environmental protection through 'beach cleans.' During the low season, the boat secures food through traditional fishing and preserves their way of life. Three young Moken—Wut, Oden, and Tiny—independently manage the boat as captains and guides. A portion of the proceeds flows into a community fund to ensure the long-term preservation of this valuable culture and to create new opportunities.
