In the heart of Laos, on the picturesque Nam Ou River, lies the small village of Tien Khien, about an hour's boat ride from Nong Khiaw. The local primary school there offers 87 children a chance at education. During a visit in January, we noticed that the large, open schoolyard remained unused; the children mostly spent their breaks reading quietly in their books. Inspired by the desire to make the children's school day more active and joyful, we launched the project "Playing Strong in Laos". Based on a long-standing and trusting partnership with our local contact person, a comprehensive list of sports equipment was compiled. This included nets for volleyball and badminton, footballs and volleyballs, badminton sets, skipping ropes, and tracksuits. Despite the complex infrastructure in Laos, which made procurement and transport challenging, we successfully ensured that all the equipment found its way to the school. Following the successful handover of the materials, the project is now considered successfully completed. Our investment has since enabled the children to have healthy physical development and strengthened their sense of community through playing together. In September 2025, we were able to see the success of this initiative for ourselves during a trip to the site: The children of Tien Khien now regularly use their breaks for sports and play. It was a moving moment to witness how content and full of joy they appeared, because they could actively structure their break time. This project is a sustainable investment in the future of the children. We thank our local partner for their invaluable knowledge and commitment, which made the successful completion of "Playing Strong in Laos" possible. Together, we have contributed to ensuring that the children in Tien Khien can now step "playing strong" into their future.
Through targeted funding, we have significantly supported the successful completion of these projects.
